Nail Thickening

Definition: The nail thickens and becomes discoloured. The texture of the nail changes so that it becomes chalk-like and crumbly. This condition is caused damage and trauma and is not infectious.

Treatment: A course of treatment using special drills and burrs can hone the nail to its natural thickness. In the most serious cases, the nail can be temporarily or permanently removed surgically under local anaesthetic.
